Old School Apple Device Icons

IconFinder.com has always been a great resource for inspirational icons. One of the most recently added icon sets is “Old Apple Devices”. It’s hard sometimes to believe how much time has gone by, but these icons are a great reminder of how far computers have come over the years and how Apple has inspired technology and changed the way we do business. Before and After Photoshop Edits

One of the reasons I love Photoshop is because you can always turn semi-decent photos into publication worthy images. Here is a fun little project I recently did, where I removed the background out of this image, did some color corrections, added a drop shadow and vignette. A very simple technique with great...

Monsters and Creatures

I’ve been experimenting a bit with my Wacom Tablet. Many Digital Artists prefer to draw everything inside of Photoshop including the sketch, color, and texture. I’ve always had more fun drawing the traditional way with pencil and paper and sometimes ink. Typically I will do a rough sketch, ink some of the detail, scan the artwork into Photoshop and let the magic happen from there. However on this particular piece I did everything 100% in Photoshop. Starting with a rough sketch, I used the pen tool to draw out some basic lines and shapes. I then used a much larger softer brush to...

Inspiration From The Queen Mary

This past Thanksgiving we decided to have brunch on The Queen Mary in Long Beach. The last time I was there was when I was in grade school during a field trip, but I was amazed at how much I remember. I am just as fascinated with the boat now, as I was years ago. It was amazing and hard to believe the brilliant engineering that goes into making such a huge vessel. There were pipes, tubes, machines, gauges, knobs, and just about every mechanical part you can think of inside that boat. During our tour of the Queen, we were guided down into the engine room and several other parts of the boat...

I’m Officially Drawing Again!

It’s been over 4 years since I left my teaching job and I haven’t picked up a pencil to draw since. Recently, I noticed how much I was actually missing my art and finally pushed myself to get started again. The nice thing about art in general is you never loose the skill, but it does take a certain discipline to refine the ability. As life continues to get more busy, it seems we have less and less time dedicated to the things we really love. Eventually many people just give up and focus on their jobs or family and their dreams get swept away. Drawing, for me, brings me back to my...

Pet Portrait in 8 Hours

Since I left Mission:Renaissance I haven’t painted in over 3.5 years. I was so caught up technology and everything happening online that I completely abandoned my painting.  Although I tried my best to continue sketching here and there, drawing cartoons and taking a drawing class, I was really missing painting. I haven’t had many inspirations yet that forced me back into the world of Oil Painting, but finally I got my break. Strangely enough, I was discussing “good gift ideas” with a friend and I happen to mention getting a custom oil painting. He immediately loved...
