Monsters and Creatures

I’ve been experimenting a bit with my Wacom Tablet. Many Digital Artists prefer to draw everything inside of Photoshop including the sketch, color, and texture. I’ve always had more fun drawing the traditional way with pencil and paper and sometimes ink. Typically I will do a rough sketch, ink some of the detail, scan the artwork into Photoshop and let the magic happen from there. However on this particular piece I did everything 100% in Photoshop. Starting with a rough sketch, I used the pen tool to draw out some basic lines and shapes. I then used a much larger softer brush to layout large shapes of tone. As the drawing progressed, I used smaller and smaller brushes as I refined the areas of detail. I then make a second pass with a few blending modes and the dodge and burn tools to adjust the lights and darks. I finished the piece with a few overlays of color and hue adjustments. Although I could take the color and tone much further, I like the stage that this drawing is at, so I decided to leave it for now.
